Secluded Forest Yurt

Secluded Forest Yurt

 ________________

Our goal with this 10 foot yurt installation:  Integrate the yurt naturally into it's forest setting.  To do this we turned to the natural building materials available in this area of the forest.  The flat stones used for the floor were all gathered from the forest floor around the yurt.

We began with a wooden platform using 3/4" S.F.I. certified 50 year plywood (right).  Then a belly belt was added around the edge to serve as a form for when we pour our home-made mortar mix.

A main design element of this yurt is the birch tree which is growing up through the center of the floor.  We cut the top out of the tree last year and new growth has already sprung, through the years we're expecting new branches to form on the still living tree.

In keeping with our goal; rough cut lumber from the local saw mill is treated with raw linseed oil & used to frame the doorway.

The 10' Travel Yurt had already been fabricated in our workshop.  So, after we poured the mortar mix & let it dry for a couple of days the yurt setup only took about an hour.  One advantage Surely Yurts offer is our proprietary technology: Magna-Mount® Skylight system.
